FACILITIES
Upper Herdswick Farm is a 285 acre purpose built training establishment near Marlborough on the Wiltshire Downs. Situated within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it is a stunning setting to train from but more importantly it has exceptional chalkland gallops and schooling grounds, and perfect inclines for working National Hunt horses.
The grass and all weather gallops were designed and laid out with great thought by former trainer, Jim Old. Mr Old successfully trained from Upper Herdswick for over 25 years, sending out hundreds of winners including a Champion Hurdle winner and a Group winner on the flat.
We are now lucky to benefit from this beautiful training establishment and have invested heavily in upgrading all the facilities.
Hill woodchip gallop This 5 1/2 furlong gallop on a steep incline is invaluable for establishing and maintaining high levels of fitness.
Several flights of hurdles, traditional birch fences, Easyfix chase fences and cross country fences across the farm ensure our horses are always well schooled ahead of their racecourse appearances.
We have a number of fenced paddocks varying in size from small day turnout paddocks which are perfect for horses in full work, to large paddocks suitable for wintering and summering resting horses and youngstock.
